Checking prescribed texts and current assessment requirements

You are revising literature but are unsure which texts and requirements apply to you.

Before you revise literary answers, confirm which texts and requirements apply to you. This lesson gives a checklist and a one-page record to keep for each text.

It belongs to the literary response work in SPM Bahasa Cina. The site does not list prescribed titles, so always confirm current details at the official sources named below.

What should you confirm first?

Confirm these items before you revise.

  1. Which literary texts are in your course this year.
  2. Whether literary response is assessed in your paper, and how.
  3. The current paper format.
  4. Any changes announced since your notes were written.

The Chinese exam guide explains what to look for on each site.

Who and where to ask?

Source What to ask or check
Your Chinese teacher Which texts your class follows, and how they mark
Lembaga Peperiksaan (lp.moe.gov.my) Current exam information
Bahagian Pembangunan Kurikulum (bpk.moe.gov.my) Curriculum documents
Your school’s coordinator Timetable and any school-specific arrangements

Write down the date you checked. If something changes, you will know which information is older.

A one-page record for each text

Keep a single page per text so your revision is organised. Here is a worked example layout using an invented text.

  • Title and type: 《旧单车》 (short story, invented example)
  • Main idea in one sentence: Quiet help builds trust.
  • Key events: repair, tea, toolbox.
  • Three quotable details: 递茶, 从不说谢谢, 工具箱.
  • Language choices: 默默, short sentences.
  • Questions to practise: theme, character, tone.

The text is an example for layout only. Fill in the same headings for each of your own texts.

The mistake that keeps happening

Students revise from a friend’s notes or from last year’s class. The texts or requirements may have changed, and the preparation does not match the paper.

The correct habit is to confirm at the source and then write your own record. Notes you built are easier to remember than notes you borrowed.

Check yourself

You have notes on three texts from an older group. You are not sure whether your class studies all of them. What should you do before revising further?

Answer

Ask your Chinese teacher which texts apply to your class this year, and confirm current requirements on the official sites. Until you know, revise skills that transfer, such as explaining imagery and theme, using any passage you have.

Do not assume all three texts are assessed. Record the date you checked and keep one page per confirmed text.

What to study next

Once you know your texts, build your records and practise with distinguishing theme from plot summary, then try the literary response practice set.

Common questions

Where do I find the current prescribed texts?

Ask your school teacher first, since they know which list your class follows. You can also check the Lembaga Peperiksaan site at lp.moe.gov.my and the Bahagian Pembangunan Kurikulum site at bpk.moe.gov.my for current curriculum documents.

What if my school and a website seem to differ?

Follow your school teacher for class work and ask them to confirm against the official source. Requirements can change, so do not rely on older notes or other students' memories.

I am a private candidate. What should I do?

Check the official sources directly, because there is no school teacher to tell you. Confirm the texts, the paper format and registration details with the relevant authority.

Do I need every text to revise well?

You need the texts you are examined on. Master those before reading extra ones. The skills in this cluster transfer across texts, so practise on whatever passages you have.

If you are unsure how to turn your school's texts into a revision plan, a one-to-one teacher can build the plan with you once you know what applies.
