After the one-hour trial, you decide whether the teacher is a good fit. If yes, lessons continue. If not, you can ask for another teacher.
What did the trial show?
Start with the lesson itself. Ask the student to say in their own words what they can do now that they could not do an hour ago.
The after-trial reflection and discussion checklist helps the student write this down. A parent can use how to judge whether a trial lesson was useful to read the answers calmly.
What does continuing look like?
Lessons are usually about 1.5 hours per class. More than one class a week is possible when it is needed and the teacher has time.
You and the teacher agree the schedule together, around school hours, activities and exam weeks.
What if a class needs to move?
Give at least 1 day’s notice, and the teacher will agree a new time with you. The earlier you message, the easier it is to find a slot that suits both sides.
Fees are paid monthly, based on the number of classes that month, at the rate you agreed before the trial.
What will the lessons focus on?
Lessons can follow the school syllabus, so the student keeps pace with class. They can also focus on topics your family chooses, such as one chapter or one paper skill.
A good focus names a topic or a skill, such as algebra rearrangement or writing a structured answer. Say what matters most, and the teacher plans around it.
How do you see progress?
You can ask the teacher for a monthly progress review. It is a simple way to hear what the student can do now and what comes next.
Pick a date for the first review when you agree the schedule, such as after the next school test.
What if the teacher is not the right fit?
Tell the team what you noticed, for example the pace, the explanation style or the teaching language. You can ask for another teacher, and the team will arrange one.
A new teacher starts from what the student already knows, so the first trial work still counts.
What can you agree with the teacher?
These are the points to settle together.
- Schedule. The day and time that suit the family.
- Classes a week. One class, or more when the teacher has time.
- Topics or syllabus. What the lessons will focus on.
- Progress review. A monthly review on request.
What to agree with your teacher after the trial turns these into a short checklist.
How does this fit the whole process?
The trial is step two of three. Step one is the WhatsApp enquiry, and step three is the arrangement described above. The overview is on how our online one-to-one SPM tuition works, and the rate is explained on the fees page.
