These eight questions are original and ramp from recognition to editing. Answer each in Tamil before you open the explanation.
They cover the vocabulary and accuracy cluster. Questions 1 to 3 are the easiest, and questions 7 and 8 combine skills.
Questions
Question 1. Choose the correct word: பூவின் (மனம் / மணம்) தோட்டம் முழுவதும் பரவியது.
Answer
மணம். The subject is a flower, and what spreads from a flower is its fragrance. மனம் means mind or heart.
Question 2. Choose the correct word: பள்ளிக்குச் செல்லும் (வலி / வழி) மிகவும் நீளமானது.
Answer
வழி. The sentence talks about the road to school, so it needs “way”. வலி means pain.
Question 3. Rewrite in written Tamil for a formal letter: நான் நேத்து வர முடியல.
Answer
நான் நேற்று வர இயலவில்லை.
The spoken நேத்து becomes நேற்று, and the spoken முடியல becomes the written இயலவில்லை. The meaning stays the same.
Question 4. Write the respectful form of “please come” and “please go” for a notice to parents.
Answer
வாருங்கள் and செல்லுங்கள்.
The forms வாங்க and போங்க are spoken. A notice to parents is written and respectful, so the written forms are expected.
Question 5. Find the error and correct it: அவள் தோட்டத்தில் கலை பிடுங்கினாள்.
Answer
கலை should be களை. The verb பிடுங்கினாள் and the place தோட்டம் point to a weed, while கலை means art.
Corrected: அவள் தோட்டத்தில் களை பிடுங்கினாள்.
Question 6. Edit this sentence, which has one wrong word and one missing consonant doubling: அவன் பல்லிக்கு சென்றான்.
Answer
அவன் பள்ளிக்குச் சென்றான்.
பல்லி (lizard) becomes பள்ளி (school). The ச் is doubled in குச் சென்றான் to show the joining between the two words.
Question 7. Edit this passage for three errors: நேற்று நூலகத்துக்குப் போனோம் ஆசிரியர் ஒரு புத்தகத்தை காட்டினார். அதன் மனம் எனக்குப் பிடித்தது.
Answer
நேற்று நூலகத்துக்குப் போனோம். ஆசிரியர் ஒரு புத்தகத்தைக் காட்டினார். அதன் மணம் எனக்குப் பிடித்தது.
Three fixes: a missing full stop after போனோம், the missing doubled consonant in புத்தகத்தைக் காட்டினார், and மனம் to மணம் (the smell of a book, if that was meant). If the writer meant something about the book’s content, a different word would be needed, so check the meaning first.
Question 8. Make a review card for the word ஆர்வம் using this original context sentence: அவள் கணிதத்தில் ஆர்வம் கொண்டவள். Write the meaning, the partner pattern and your own sentence.
Answer
Word: ஆர்வம், meaning interest or eagerness.
Partner pattern: ஆர்வம் கொண்டவள் (one who has interest), seen in the context sentence.
A good sentence of your own: அவனுக்கு அறிவியல் சோதனைகளில் மிகுந்த ஆர்வம் உண்டு.
Review dates: today, after 3 days, after 7 days, using the spaced recall planner.
