A teaching CV works when the reader finds your subjects, forms and years of experience in the first lines. Everything after that shows how you teach.
A one-page layout
Order the page by what the reader needs first.
- Name and subjects. For example: Mathematics and Additional Mathematics, Form 4 and Form 5.
- Years of experience. A number for each subject, plus where you taught.
- Qualifications. Highest relevant qualification and any teaching qualification.
- Teaching approach. Three or four lines on how you explain.
- Teaching languages. The languages you can explain in, such as English, Bahasa Melayu or Chinese.
Turn a vague line into a specific one
Vague: “Good at helping weak students improve.”
Specific: “For Form 4 students who freeze on Additional Mathematics functions, I start from drawing the mapping, then build to notation, and ask the student to explain each step before moving on.”
The second line names the topic, the student and the method, so a reader can picture the lesson. The first line could describe any teacher.
The teaching introduction
Put the introduction in your WhatsApp message and keep it to four or five lines. Include your name, subjects, forms, years of experience and the language you prefer to teach in.
Add one sentence on how you teach. For instance: “I ask students to attempt first and say why, then I correct the exact line where the reasoning slips.” Write only what you really do.
What to leave out
Leave out your identity card number, home address, bank details and family details. A photograph is not needed. The applicant privacy notes explain how what you send is handled.
Leave out claims that cannot be checked, such as promises about student results.
Sending it
Save the CV as a PDF, named with your name and subject, then follow how to apply. The subject list helps you decide which subjects to name, and the Join our team page has the overview.
