Chinese revision route and checklist

You have several Chinese topics to revise and no sense of which to start with.

This route puts the Chinese topics in an order where each one supports the next. Revise a topic only after the one before it feels secure, because weak sentence accuracy makes every writing task look harder than it is.

It supports the SPM Bahasa Cina guide. Confirm current syllabus and assessment details on the Lembaga Peperiksaan website and with your teacher.

How do I test a topic?

Use three questions for every topic. Answer them on paper, in Chinese, without notes.

  1. Can I do one fresh task from the topic with no help?
  2. Can I say why each sentence or choice is there?
  3. Can I find the weak spot in someone else’s answer?

Yes to all three means tick the topic. A single no puts it on your repair list.

The revision route

Work through these in order. The link beside each topic goes to its study guide.

Stage 1: accuracy and reading

Stage 2: shorter writing

Stage 3: composition

Finish by checking the glossary for the terms that questions use.

How do I turn the route into a plan?

Count the weeks left and the hours you can give each week. List the topics on your repair list and give them the earliest slots.

Step What to do
1 Test every topic with the three questions
2 Put failed topics on the repair list
3 Revise the repair list first, in route order
4 Retest each repaired topic after a few days
5 Record what you pass, with the date

The realistic revision planner builds weekly slots, the spaced recall planner spaces the retests, and the skill evidence tracker records what you can do.

What if the same topic keeps failing?

A topic that fails twice usually has a smaller gap underneath it. A composition with no clear point, for example, may come from copying phrases instead of choosing ideas.

If you want a teacher to find that gap with you, see online one-to-one Chinese tuition.

Common questions

How should I use this checklist?

Copy it into a notebook. For each topic, attempt the three questions without notes and in Chinese. A topic where you pass all three is ticked. A topic where you miss one goes on your repair list and is revised first.

Do I revise the topics in the order given?

Follow the order for topics you feel unsure about, because reading and sentence accuracy support every writing task. Skip a topic only after it passes all three questions, then return to it once before the exam.

Should my revision notes be in English or Chinese?

Write the answers you practise in Chinese, because that is the language that is assessed. Short English notes to yourself about method are fine, but the sentences you rehearse should be Chinese sentences.

Does this route match my exam exactly?

It follows the topics on this site. Confirm the current syllabus, prescribed texts and assessment details on the Lembaga Peperiksaan website and with your school teacher, and delete anything your year does not assess.

If a topic keeps failing the checklist, one-to-one Chinese lessons let a teacher read your own written answers and find the exact sentence where the point is lost.
