These six tasks practise the four passes from revising an original Chinese narrative. Rewrite each extract in Chinese on paper, then open the model. The timed original practice session builder can set your time.
Tasks
Task 1 (significant event). Choose the significant event and write a first sentence: “我起床,吃早餐,上学,上课,中午买了午饭,下午在操场踢球,球踢中了校长的车窗,我吓得不敢动,放学回家。”
Answer
The significant event is the ball hitting the principal’s car window. Everything else is routine. A sample opening: “球飞出去的那一刻,我就知道完了,它不偏不倚地撞上了校长车子的车窗。” The earlier events are cut because the reader would not miss them.
Task 2 (character change). Replace the label: “经过这件事,我变得细心了。”
Answer
Sample: “以前我写完数学题就合上簿子。这一次,我把每一行答案又核对了一遍,才把笔放下。” The repeated behaviour is how the character treats the finished work. The change shows in a before-and-after pair.
Task 3 (character change). Plant a before-picture for a character who later shares, using one object.
Answer
Sample: “妈妈给我一盒巧克力,我抱在怀里,连弟弟伸手我都转过身去。” At the end, the same box could be opened and held out. The before-picture uses the object and a body movement.
Task 4 (cutting decoration). Revise: “清晨的阳光如同一层金纱洒在校园里,空气中弥漫着清新的气息,我背着书包,带着无比激动的心情,走进了校门。”
Answer
Sample: “清晨,我背着书包走进校门,新买的鞋子在水泥地上嗒嗒作响。” The sunlight and air phrases add nothing, and “无比激动” names the mood. The shoes give a small detail that shows the newness and excitement.
Task 5 (mismatch). What is wrong with “烈日当空,大雨淋湿了我的衣服,我们继续赶路”, and how can you fix it?
Answer
“烈日当空” means a strong sun overhead, which contradicts the heavy rain. The phrase was probably memorised and added without checking. Fix: “大雨淋湿了我的衣服,我们继续赶路。” Or keep the sun and drop the rain, depending on the scene.
Task 6 (ending). The story is about a boy who is too scared to speak in class, and the ending is: “结果他成了学校演讲比赛的冠军。” Revise the ending using story evidence.
Answer
“冠军” has no earlier support.
A sample: “下一节课,老师又点了他的名字。他站起来,拿着那张被汗浸湿的小纸条,这一次,他把第一句话念出来了。” The ending uses the nervous object (the damp note) and a small step. It is believable from what the story has shown.
If you got these wrong
- Task 1: revisit choosing a significant event.
- Tasks 2 and 3: revisit character change through actions.
- Tasks 4 and 5: revisit removing decorative phrases.
- Task 6: revisit revising the ending.
