Is one-to-one Science tuition suitable?

Get an honest view of whether one-to-one Science tuition fits your child.

One-to-one Science tuition suits a student who has specific gaps and brings wrong answers to work on. It is not the right next step for everyone, and this page sets out the comparison fairly.

When does one-to-one Science tuition fit?

It fits when the student’s problem is personal rather than shared with the whole class. Examples include understanding a topic but writing explanations that lose marks, or freezing when a graph is given.

It also fits a student who does not ask questions in class. A teacher whose whole attention is on one student notices hesitation and can slow down or move on at the right moment.

How does it compare with the alternatives?

Option Works well when Less suited when
Self-study with free resources The student is motivated and can tell right from wrong answers Mistakes go unnoticed because nobody checks the reasoning
School teacher or after-school help A specific question needs a quick answer The student needs a regular slot for gaps
Group tuition The student wants a revision rhythm and cost sharing The pace is wrong, or the student will not speak in a group
One-to-one online Gaps are specific and feedback should be immediate The student has not yet attempted any questions

For a longer treatment, see online one-to-one tuition versus group tuition and versus self-study.

Does it teach Sains, or pure Physics, Chemistry and Biology?

Lessons follow the Sains the student sits. The teacher uses the student’s school topics and questions, so a question about a food chain stays at Sains depth.

If the student takes the separate sciences as well, each needs its own plan. The guide to taking Sains rather than the separate pure sciences explains the difference, and the Physics tuition page shows how a single science is taught.

When is tuition not the next useful step?

If the student has not started revising, free notes and a few attempted questions may be enough first. If the student is tired and sleeping badly, rest may help more than another lesson.

Tuition also cannot replace school-assessed practical work. Our own article on when more tuition may not be the next useful step is written for this situation.

How would we start?

Message us on WhatsApp. We assign an experienced Science teacher and arrange the one-hour trial class (from RM50), with the fee agreed before it starts. After the trial, you decide whether the teacher is a good fit. The Science tuition page has the full overview.

Common questions

Does Science tuition cover the whole Sains syllabus?

It covers what the student and teacher choose to work on. Most students target the topics where marks are lost rather than the whole syllabus, and the plan is agreed directly with the teacher.

Is one-to-one better than a group class for Science?

It suits students whose gaps differ from the class, or who need questions answered without hesitation. A group class can suit a student who is already confident and wants a fixed revision rhythm.

How much does it cost after the trial from RM50?

The fee is agreed before the trial, and the trial costs the same hourly rate as that teacher's normal classes. Lessons are usually about 1.5 hours a class.

Will the teacher follow what my child learns at school?

They can. Some students want to stay in step with school; others go back to earlier topics first. You decide the focus with the teacher.

If the comparison points towards one-to-one lessons, the one-hour trial is a low-commitment way to see how the student responds. Tell us the form and what feels hardest.
