Who does this tuition help?

This is a practical subject with a written side, and marks are lost where the two meet.

  • Reading a plan. Dimensions, symbols and scale look like a list of numbers.
  • Explaining a sequence. The student knows the steps but cannot say why one comes before another.
  • Linking material to purpose. The answer names a material but not why it suits the job.

A student who spends weekends on sport or a part-time job can use short lessons to fix the one planning idea that keeps costing marks.

What does a lesson look like?

Here is a worked example of reading a plan, made up for practice.

On a plan drawn at a scale of 1 : 50, a room measures 8 cm by 6 cm. What are the real dimensions?

The teacher asks what 1 : 50 means. One centimetre on paper stands for 50 cm in real life. So 8 cm becomes 8 × 50 = 400 cm = 4 m, and 6 cm becomes 6 × 50 = 300 cm = 3 m. The room is 4 m by 3 m, which is 12 m².

The common mistake is to stop at 400 cm and 300 cm and forget to convert, or to multiply areas by 50 instead of 2,500. The teacher asks the student to check by asking if a 4 m by 3 m room is a believable size for a small bedroom.

The same habit of asking why helps with sequence. A structure is built from the ground up because every part needs the part below it to carry its weight, so foundations come before walls and walls before the roof.

What can online lessons do, and what stays at school?

Online lessons cover plan reading, scale calculations, materials, explaining order with reasons and feedback on written answers. Sketching on paper and talking through it works well.

Workshop and site practice, tools and assessed tasks stay at school. The teacher does not complete assessed work for you and cannot promise a grade.

Common questions

Can the teacher teach me site or workshop skills online?

Online lessons cover reading plans, scale, materials and the reasons behind a build order. Hands-on construction and anything assessed in a workshop are done at school under supervision.

Do I need to be good at drawing?

No. Reading a plan is about understanding dimensions and relationships, not artistic skill. The teacher can start from the simple drawing conventions.

Will the teacher give safety instructions for real building work?

Lessons explain safety ideas at a classroom level, such as why certain precautions exist. Real construction work should be done only under proper supervision.

How much does tuition cost?

The first class is a one-hour trial (from RM50). The fee is agreed with you before the trial at the teacher's hourly rate, and lessons are usually about 1.5 hours, with the schedule agreed with your teacher.
