Form 5 Biology continues from the cell foundations of Form 4 into body systems, inheritance and ecology. This route shows how the parts connect and where to start. It sits inside the SPM Biology guide.
What does the Form 5 route cover?
Form 5 work focuses on systems that respond and stay balanced, on how traits pass between generations, and on how living things interact with their environment. Confirm with your school which chapters fall in your year.
For body systems, see coordination and response, homeostasis and the urinary system and immunity. For the other strands, see inheritance, ecosystems and environmental sustainability.
Three questions, three kinds of reasoning
Here is an illustrative example. Three Form 5 style questions look different, and each needs a different answer shape.
| Question | Reasoning it needs | Answer shape |
|---|---|---|
| Explain how blood glucose returns to normal after a meal | A chain with feedback | Stimulus, detection, response, effect, feedback |
| Two heterozygous plants are crossed. Predict the offspring | A genetic diagram | Parent genotypes, gametes, offspring, ratio |
| Explain why a population of fish falls after a pollutant enters a river | Evidence linked to cause | Data, link, consequence |
Each question is marked on the link between steps, not on a list of facts. That is the thread running through Form 5.
Who should start where?
If explanations of body responses stall halfway, start with coordination and homeostasis. If genetic diagrams cost you marks, start with inheritance.
If data and ecology questions feel vague, start with ecosystems. If Form 4 ideas such as diffusion and enzymes are shaky, revisit the Form 4 route first. The exam guide shows how questions are phrased.
